Perugia: Italian Christmas market “below the surface”
Perugia offers a very special Christmas market: The Christmas market of this characteristic Italian town in Umbria takes place in the Rocca Paolina.
The Rocca Paolina is an old part of Perugia which was all covered on top to defend the inhabitants almost 500 years ago.
And in this wonderfull place you can find little stands which offer everything from local Italian food to handmade jewelery to ceramic Christmas balls from Deruta. Walking among all this history admiring the artisans and the great Italian food is very special.
And the food is surprising: Not only the typical Italian Olive oil is on sale, but also hemp oil. Not just porcini sauce and wild boar sausage, but also snail sauce…
Well, at ByItaly we are a little more traditional. But we love the variety and experiments of others…
