The Christmas Tree of Gubbio entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1991 as the “Biggest Christmas tree of the world”. It is made up of various types of lighting and color, drawing a very special and unique tree and an outstanding view from the opposite hills.
It has a base of 450 meters to over 750 meters on the slopes of Mount Ingino, starting from the walls of the medieval city and arriving at the basilica of the patron saint, St. Ubaldo, on the top of the mountain – covers an area of about 130,000 square meters (approx.30 football fields). Over 300 points of green lights delineate the shape – the central body is dotted with more than 400 multicolored lights, plus a big a comet about a thousand square meters designed by more than 250 points of light. It takes about 7,500 meters of cable power of various kinds to make the connections. Every year it takes about 1,300 hours of work to set up all the lights, run cables and provide for their connections.
Since when it was set up in 1981 for the first time, the tree wanted to be a symbol of universal sign of peace and brotherhood among people of the world. A still it does.
Merry Christmas folks!
