The cardinals don’t like the plans to open a McDonald at Saint Peter’s Square in Rome.

“It’s a controversial, perverse decision to say the least,” Cardinal Elio Sgreccia said in an interview with La Repubblica daily on Saturday.  To open a restaurant of the US fast-food chain in a piazza to the right of the Vatican’s basilica is “by no means respectful of the architectural traditions of one of the most characteristic squares which look onto the colonnade of Saint Peters,” he said.

One of the cardinals has even written to Pope Francis to protest against the Mc Donald next to the Vatican.

The money of the rent would go to the Vatican who owns the building. But the cardinals still don’t like it.

And we at ByItaly couldn’t agree more. The area has already become full of souvenir stands and low level food stores. There is so much great Italian food in Italy. Why should we offer burgers and french fries in a place like this ?

What do you think ?
